A Pleistocene open woodland scene from Rampart Cave in the western portion of the Grand Canyon. The painting by artist Julius Csotonyi features American cheetahs (Miracinonyx trumani), Harrington’s mountain goat (Oreamnos harringtoni), Shasta ground sloth (Nothrotheriops shastensis), Stock’s vampire bats (Desmodus stocki), California condor (Gymnogyps californianus), and a woodrat (Neotoma). Fossils of all of these prehistoric animals have been found in Rampart Cave.
